The aim of this lecture course is to familiarize students with some of the most important aspects of Canadian Studies in a North American context. The course will provide insights both into more traditional themes through which one can arrive at a more nuanced understanding of Canadian identity, such as geography, history and politics, and the country’s current social and cultural issues, ranging from immigration policy to popular culture, environmental policy and foreign policy. Although class attendance is not compulsory, it is kindly encouraged, as it will facilitate an understanding of the course material. The course will conclude with an oral examination.
