The aim of the LD courses in the first year is:

1. To prepare students for academic study through the medium of English at the university.
2. To further develop students’ knowledge of English by practising the four language skills of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and by enhancing the students’ use and understanding of vocabulary and grammar in English, with an emphasis on English for Academic Purposes.
3. To explore the language and non-language skills necessary for effective university study. 

LD 1 focuses on effective study skills and academic vocabulary, as well as reading and listening skills and strategies.
